What's it about:

The date October 6 1998. Because of this event Laramie became branded with the name "Hate Crime Capital of America"

This film originally a Play by the New York Tectonic Theater Project, it follows events from when Matthew was found the arrest of Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney the announcement that Matthew Died and then onto the Trials of Henderson and Mckinney, the film is shot as a documentary with members of the Tectonic Theater interviewed over 200 member of the laramie community, Then using eight actors they portray the views and recollections of the events

My Views

A very powerful film, this film touches raw nerves in the Laramie community, as well as bringing to light hate crimes, the issues and attitudes around homosexuality and HIV, with a well known cast that were rumored to have requested to be cast for this movie. This film shows the events surrounding one of the most vicious and brutal crimes in our recent history.

Quotes from the film:

"The injuries sustained would be what you would expect of a car crash victim at 80mph"

Matthew's father speaks before sentence is passed at Aaron McKinney's trial "I would like nothing better than to see you die, However, this is the time to begin the healing process, to show mercy to someone who refused to show mercy... I give you life in the memory of one who no longer lives"
